CA & Co has installed a new Combo X70 sand washing plant applied in the production of manufactured sands in Sri Lanka. The new plant was required as a result of a growing demand for manufactured sands following a ban on river sand mining in Sri Lanka. This is the latest ban on river sand mining which is seeing quarry operators across the world realise the potential that exists from the efficient processing of crusher dust stockpiles into valuable manufactured sands that can be used as a substitute for natural sands in the manufacture of concrete.

Sri Lanka currently has ambitious growth plans leading to significant infrastructure developments. This has driven significant demand for sand to be used in concrete manufacturing. The high price of natural sand in the market as a result of this demand led CA & Co to explore the possibility of utilising dumps of crushed rock fines and adopting the advanced processing technologies which facilitate their production into manufactured sands for use in concrete.

In order to instill confidence in the builders and contractors over the use of manufactured sand, representative samples of crushed fines were obtained from CA and manufactured sand was prepared in the CDE laboratory in India for demonstration to the industry as to the consistency in quality.

Additionally all technical studies generated from CDE installations in India on the efficacy of washed M-sand over river sand were shared with CA. With all these inputs the initial resistance was overcome and CA decided to put up a washing plant in its crusher site to process the dumped crushed fines available at site as well as those being produced by their daily crushing operations.

This was the first such attempt in the country. CDE Asia completed commissioning of their revolutionary Combo X70 sand washing plant in Sri Lanka for CA group within four months of their contract finalization. The plant is producing 100 tons per hour manufactured sand by processing crushed fines from a three stage crushing plant.
